SECURE 2014 is a conference dedicated entirely to IT security and addressed to administrators, security team members and practitioners in this field. SECURE’s unique feature is the organisers’ commitment to providing participants with reliable information about everything that is current and meaningful in IT security. A high professional level of the talks is ensured by CERT Polska during the paper selection process. Particular emphasis is on practical solutions, analysis of the current threats, latest trends in countering threats as well as important legal issues. Participants have an opportunity to gain the latest knowledge, improve their qualifications and exchange experience with experts.
The security of the basic network infrastructure that makes up the modern Internet has become a particularly hot topic in the last year. DDoS amplification attacks that utilize third party devices or services have gained momentum. SOHO routers have become a new attack surface – cybercriminals have been reconfiguring them to launch man-in-the-middle attacks, with the aim of stealing credentials – including those used for online banking. In order to achieve their goals, they have used more and more refined social engineering techniques. This has resulted in tangible financial losses for many people. This begs the question – what can be done for such attacks to become less effective? Botnets too, are still going strong despite many publicized takedown actions. Are there truly no effective methods to make them go away once and for all? In the past year the Edward Snowden’s revelations have also exacerbated privacy concerns in the context of network surveillance by security agencies. Do we have to give up our privacy for our security? During the SECURE 2014 conference we will seek answers to these and other difficult questions.
